Beauty Inside & Out  An Interview  Spa Etiquette —
Pamper Yourself

Spa Etiquette — Pamper Yourself

Most brides-to-be visit the spa right before their wedding for relaxation purposes and to freshen up before the big day. However, for many brides, this is their first time visiting a spa. Whether it’s to get a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure or other body treatments, it’s the best place to get pampered and help relax and re-energize yourself. So, what if you’re a spa virgin? How are you supposed to act and what are you supposed to do? Here are a couple of tips to help you out if you plan on spoiling yourself (which is highly recommended!) before your day of bliss.

Getting There Make sure to get there at least 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This gives you time to get familiar with the spa, get undressed, and relax a bit before your appointment.

First Timers Let them know if it’s your first visit to a spa. The employees will tell you exactly what to expect and will take you through the spa.
Clothing: For most appointments, such as massages and body treatments, it’s normal to be nude. The spa will provide you with a robe and slippers to change into before your appointment. However, if you are uncomfortable, you may wear underwear, or even a bathing suit underneath the robe. For treatments, such as facials and pedicures, it’s not necessary to undress completely.

JewelryMost spas prefer, if not require, you to remove all jewelry before treatments.
Cell Phones: Turn off your cell phone when entering the spa or leave it in the car. It’s considered rude to be on the phone, or have it ring, during your time at the spa.

Children It’s not recommended to bring children with you to the spa. After all, you’re supposed to be there to relax!

Lounge AreaAfter you change, spas will have a lounge/meditation room for you to relax, drink water and juices, and wait for your appointment. Be aware and courteous to other customers in the room.

FeedbackGive the therapist feedback if needed. Let him/her know if the pressure is too much, the temperature is not right, or if you are uncomfortable at all.

TalkingDon’t feel obligated to talk to your therapist the whole time. Talk if you want to, don’t if you don’t want to!

Conditions Let your therapist know of any physical or medical conditions such as diabetes, back pain, open wounds, or skin irritations.

TippingBe sure to check and see if tip is included in the treatment. If not, although tipping is optional, it is the spa norm. Most tips range from 15% - 20%, but you can leave a little more or less, depending on the quality of service.

Canceling An Appointment If you must cancel your appointment, notify the spa at least 24 hours in advance.

Most of all, relax and enjoy the experience! This is your time to pamper yourself!
