Sweet Decisions

A beautiful cake sits like a monument, the centerpiece of your reception. A sweet masterpiece. The hard part is deciding what kind of cake will headline the reception.

Bakers have perfected the fine art of wedding cake design. They have gotten rid of those cumbersome columns and have expanded the selection of colors and flavors. Today’s best cake designs are those that best reflect the personalities of the bride and groom.

When deciding on a baker to create a cake that represents your personalities, don’t forget to ask these questions:

What flavors are offered? Can the baker offer samples?

Do they have portfolios of their work?

How much cake will it take to feed everyone on the guest list? Will there be leftovers? Does the baker preserve leftovers for the bride and groom and is there an additional charge for freezing?

Is there a delivery charge? Does the delivery fee include both setup and mileage? Have they ever delivered to your site before? Will the cake be delivered on the day of the event? Is there a rental fee for any columns or stands?

Does the baker have a “Plan B” in case the cake is damaged during delivery? Is the “Plan B” written in the contract? Does the baker offer compensation (reimbursement) for a damaged cake?

What are the best options for the budget? Is it cheaper to create a smaller cake for cutting and have a sheetcake in the kitchen area to be served to guests? Are different flavors or icings cheaper than others?subjects. You wouldn’t buy bad art, so why settle for anything less with your wedding photographs.
