Groom’s Gourmet Delights

It wasn’t easy dragging the groom away from the football game to pick out wedding flowers.

This time, give your groom a wedding chore he can really sink his teeth into. Ask him to select his own groom’s cake to serve at the reception or at the rehearsal dinner.

A Sweet Indulgence. The groom’s cake is optional. While some brides and grooms agree to have a groom’s cake incorporated into wedding activities, such as dessert at the rehearsal dinner, others do not serve a groom’s cake at all. Don’t do without — indulge!

Taking Shape. The first rule in selecting the groom’s cake is to throw all rules out the window. The groom’s cake can be any size, shape, theme, flavor or color. His favorite football team’s mascot, an edible replica of the golf course, or a chocolate volcano could be sitting just across the room from the traditional cake.

Daringly Different. The groom’s cake is designed to contrast with the bride’s more feminine selection. The groom’s cake normally is smothered in dark icing. While flowers are rarely used to decorate the masculine masterpiece, the cake is often accented with grapes, strawberries, and other fruits. Red Velvet, Rum or Cognac infused cakes are popular groom’s cakes.
