Popular
Paper Fibers. Cotton paper is the most popular for
wedding invitations. However, recycled, art, and linen paper
are threatening to usurp cotton’s place at the top.
The difference between the competing sheets is texture and
appearance. A cotton fiber paper is traditional and elegant.
Art paper uses grasses, flowers, and other natural elements
to create a natural, romantic look. Linen paper has a grainier
surface than its cotton counterpart. But while cotton, recycled,
art, and linen papers are the top contenders, there are plenty
of others from which to choose.

Eye-Pleasing
Invitations. “Typeface” refers to the
appearance of the lettering on the invitations. Some couples
prefer calligraphy, an elegant form of handwriting, for invitations.
Do not choose an elegant, formal typeface for an informal
invitation. Likewise, avoid using simplistic type on formal
wedding invitations. Try colored ink or add a metallic touch
with gold or silver stamping. Are you having a fall wedding
with earth tones? An invitation with burnt orange leaves
in the corners with burgundy writing will leave subtle hints
to your guests that autumn’s near.
Extra
Envelopes. Remember the extra envelopes! Traditional
invitations are first sleeved in an unsealed envelope that
lists the invited person(s) in the household. Then they are
stuffed inside a larger envelope that is sealed and addressed.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with paper textures, tones,
and colors. Mix and match for a whimsical look, or try adding
a monogram in silver or gold ink (or foil) for more formality.
Your wedding invitations should make a statement about you.
Keep in mind your style of dress, colors of your wedding and
flowers. Your invitation gives your guest a hint of what to
expect on your special day.
