Innovation On Invitations  Helpful Tips  Postage  Introduction to Invitations

Postage

Your invitations were sent back to you, “Return to Sender” stamped in red across the front. You are out of envelopes and you do not have time to resend. What went wrong? The answer — you did not pay the correct postage!

Paid for With Care. Invitations are normally constructed of quality, heavier paper that costs more to send then traditional letters. Invitations also come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, including tea length and oversized varieties that require different amounts of postage. Have invitations weighed at the Post Office to determine the proper amount of postage needed before the first stamp goes on. Always, always place postage on response cards!

Personal Delivery. For small, formal weddings consider having invitations hand-delivered by a courier service. While the service is more costly than traditional mailing, it adds a touch of class and formality that no other method of delivery can offer.

Postage Positioning. While most couples use self-adhesive stamps to mail invitations, others opt to purchase postage through the Post Office. When you are purchasing postage at the Post Office, remember that Postal employees use postage labels and labeling machines, rather than traditional stamps. This could impact the look of invitations that are addressed unconventionally.

You can ask a postal employee to hand stamp your invitations, just make sure the lines aren’t really long or it’s the end of tax season.

Do you remember the first time you received a wedding invitation from a relative or a friend? What did the invitation say to you? Make sure the invitations you select leave a positive impression of you. Research invitation styles and colors. Carefully sleeve and address envelopes. Apply the correct amount of postage, and imagine the smiles on loved ones faces when they pull the invitation from the envelope.
